Karen wanted to incorporate her husband's tie into her quilt, and it was large enough to make a small inner border. Her dress had a beautiful beaded design in the skirt, and I made part of that design the center of the quilt, and quilted around it. The outer border was the swag design, with a background fill of straight lines 1/4" apart.

Swags for Karen and Janet
Karen and Janet liked the swag idea for their quilt borders, but the quilts were quite different!

Janet wanted more of a patchwork design, with very little quilting. I put the lace from her dress bodice in every other square in the center of her quilt. The swag design is in the outer border, with no background fill and a facing on the back of the quilt instead of the usual quilt binding.
