Quilt, Pillow and Ringbearer's Pillow for Ruby

Ruby had a beautiful wedding dress with a double train, one layer satin and one lace. She wanted her  dress made into a quilt, a pillow and a ringbearer's pillow for her daughter.

I used satin from the dress for the pillow, with the beaded front bodice and strands of  bead "pearls". The back of the pillow was made from the lace train.

The ringbearer's pillow was satin with beaded embellishments from the dress.

Ruby's quilt was made from the skirt of her dress.  The satin and lace panels were joined in the center, and machine quilted in a feather design.  This showed off the lace, embellishments, and the lace on the bottom edge of the quilt

Mary Beth's Wedding Dress Quilt and Pillow

Mary Beth had a beautiful dress from her wedding 32 years ago.  Lots of satin with heavily beaded lace, and a beautiful lace around the bottom of the skirt and train.  She also sent me a flower centerpiece she hoped I could use in the pillow.

The quilt is satin, with lace from her dress skirt on the outer border.  Lace from the dress was incorporated into the inner border ribbon design.  

The center of the quilt had more of the ribbon design, with feathers in the corners. Beaded lace from the bodice is in a circle around the names and date embroidered in a heart in the center.

For the pillow, I quilted a pretty feather heart, with beaded lace from her bodice in the center.  I attached flowers from the centerpiece around the heart.  On the back, more quilted feathers, and a circle made of bodice lace.

Quilt and Pillow from Cindy’s Wedding Dress

Ornate wedding dresses make beautiful quilts and pillows! Cindy’s dress was satin, with a lot of openwork lace and lots of sequins and pearls.

I made a heart shape in the center of the quilt from ten pieces of lace from the skirt of the dress, over the satin from her dress.  The inner border is quilted satin, with lace embellishing the corners and sides. The outer border is satin, covered with the lace from the bottom of the skirt, with lace in the corners.

The pillow was made from the bodice of the dress.  The bodice front was made into the front of the pillow, and the back of the bodice was the back of the pillow.  A quilted design filled the open areas.

Rose’s wedding dress had a beautiful lace train that she wanted to incorporate into a quilt. The center of her quilt is solid lace from the train, quilted in the lace design.  The inner border is quilted satin, with the pretty bows from her sleeves placed in the corners. The outer border is satin, with the lace from the bottom of her skirt around the border. 

She also wanted to have an embellished lace pillow. The beautiful lace with sequins and pearls made a beautiful pillow. The front of the pillow incorporated their favorite wedding picture printed on fabric, and another pretty bow, and the back just showed off the beautiful lace with sequins and pearls.

Tia's wedding dress had a beaded top, and a chiffon skirt.  She wanted a round gathered pillow with the beading around the side, and the skirt made into the center.

I think we succeeded!

Quilt and Pillow for Paulette

Paulette wanted a quilt for her daughter, who is getting married this summer and a pillow for herself. What a great idea, a pillow so she could still have a remembrance of her wedding, once she gave the quilt to her daughter!

The dress was made of a nice taffeta fabric with a beautiful embellished bodice, and trim and lace around the hem. 

The center of the quilt is a circle made from the l trim on the dress, with embroidered names and date in the center, and feather quilting.  The inner border is fabric with a lace overlay, quilted in the design of the lace.  The outer border is the dress fabric with a nice quilted feather design.  

Paulette wanted me to incorporate the lace and buttons from the dress in the pillow.  For the front, I deconstructed the bodice and put it as an overlay on the pillow, with buttons down the sides.  The back of the pillow is lace pieced into a frame for their names and wedding date.

Judi's wedding dress had a lot of beautiful lace.  She asked me to make two pillows that showed off the lace.  The pillows are the same design, with the front a quilted heart with lace from the bodice of the dress in the center.  The back of the pillows is a lace "frame" and edging, with the bride and groom's names and wedding date machine embroidered on the back.

Haven't been blogging lately, been busy quilting!  

Theresa asked me to make a quilt and pillow from her wedding dress.   As you can see from the picture, it's a beautiful dress, but because it was short, I wasn't sure I could make both the quilt and pillow.  

She also sent me a picture of the historic building where they were married, and asked me to use it somehow. I drew out the picture, and machine embroidered it onto one side of the pillow, with circular lace and beading from the dress sleeves..  The other side of the pillow was covered with the beautiful lace and beading.

The quilt was 

The quilt was made with the satin from the dress, with portions covered in lace and individual embellishments, and a lace ruffle.  Then it was heavily machine quilted.  The finished quilt was 36" x 36".

Just enough left over to make a lace garter for her to pass down.

Quilt for Dana's Mom

Dana's Mom was having her 90th birthday, and Dana wanted to give her a quilt made from her wedding dress. The dress was lace over satin, and in really good condition, considering it was 60 years old!

A central diamond design was used, with alternating lace covered satin, and satin borders.  Dana wanted a fairly simple feather design in the quilting, and it was a pretty finish for the quilt.

I was also able to make a pillow from the bodice and sleeves of the dress, with the bodice front and sleeves on the front, and the bodice back with covered buttons on the back. 

The quilt and pillow were finished in time for the birthday party, I hope she enjoys it!

Wedding Dress Pillow for Jennifer

Jennifer has a beautiful chiffon wedding dress with a shirred bodice and beautiful decorative trim.  She asked for a pillow made from the bodice of the dress, with loose ruffles from the chiffon fabric.

After deconstructing the dress, I remade the bodice into the pillow front and back. The chiffon was challenging to sew, but I was very pleased with the finished pillow, and so was Jennifer!

I love how this quilt turned out!  I blogged about the process here, but now I've completed it and sent it off to Jennifer, I wanted to post a couple of pictures of the finished quilt.

The satin, organza and organza ruffles went together so well, and the machine quilting in white with blue "scribbled circles" background is one of my favorites.  Jennifer had requested turquoise stitching to match her wedding colors.

I like taking a picture of my quilts draped over the chair, to give an idea of the size of the quilt, and how it looks in context.  Because so much of the quilt was ruffles, there wasn't a lot of material available, but the quilt is 45" x 45" which still looks really pretty.

2013 Recap

This  has been a busy year!  I'm so lucky to be able to quilt full time, I've been able to get lots of quilts made this year!  Here's a recap of my quilts, the dates are the months when the quilts were finished:

Wedding Dress Quilt to Match Pillows

In another post, Wedding Dress Quilt and Two Pillows, I talked about the wedding dress pillows I made -- now I can show you the finished quilt!!

The quilt was a patchwork design with a center block.  The dress bodice had a beautiful decorative design that I removed and appliqued in the center (wedding dress quilts require knowledge of  garment construction as well as quilting!)  I used the lace and the lining from the dress in the quilt top.  

The quilt was quilted in a feather pattern.  It is 54" square, with a 6" ruffled border.

The quilt was to be a gift for Debbie's new granddaughter, so pink bows, ribbons and rosebuds were attached.  The quilt is to be decorative, rather than practical, it will hang on a wall, so there was no problem with the decorations not being "baby proof".

This commission has been such fun, I hope Debbie enjoys the quilt and pillows, I really enjoyed making them.

Wedding Dress Quilt and Two Pillows

Wedding dress quilts are one of my specialties, and I really enjoy making them.  The dresses are so beautiful, and the quilts and pillows are such a great reminder of a wonderful day.  

My latest commission was for a quilt and two pillows for Debbie in Ohio.  As you can see in the wedding picture, her wedding dress was lace, and had a lot of ruffles and a beautiful decoration on the bodice. 

I used the ruffles as borders, and covered the pillows with lace. -- each pillow was different, and was 12" x 16" plus a 6" ruffle.

In addition to decorative quilting, the first pillow was embellished with pearls, lace and ribbons.  

The lace on the second pillow had sequins scattered in the lace, and a decorative lace border that I was able to use on the pillow.

I'll write another blog post about the quilt, as soon as I get it finished!
