Wedding Dress Quilt for Terre

Terre had a pretty wedding dress with narrow lace on the skirt and lace motifs.  I made a wreath design in the center, with a diamond outline. The inner panel was edged with the narrow lace.  The quilting was a feather design.

Terre #1

Her grandmother made these Sunbonnet Sue blocks in 1959, and Terre wanted them made into a quilted wall hanging.  I added blue sashing and border, quilted in a feather design, and quilted a circle or diamond design in the white areas around each Sue.

Wedding Dress Made into Two Quilts for April

April sent me a beautiful satin wedding dress with a full skirt and train and beautiful lace bodice and sleeves.  She asked me to make two wedding dress quilts for her son and daughter.  Each quilt was to be different, and she wanted me to incorporate Celtic designs and silver and gold thread.

Her daughter's quilt had a lace heart made from the sleeves in the center.  The lace on the bottom edge of the dress was used in the diamond shape in the center.  A Celtic design was quilted in silver thread in the inner border, accented with lace.  The outer border was quilted in a feather design, and a bow from her dress was added at the bottom.

The quilt for April's son was machine embroidered in gold in a Celtic cross in the center, with Celtic knots in the corners.  Lace from the bottom edge of the dress was put into the inner border, and the outer border was quilted in a feather design with the bow on the bottom.

She and I were both very happy with the results!

Wedding Dress Quilt for Connie

Connie had a bed runner made from her wedding dress.  She decided she would prefer a quilt, so she sent it to me, with the leftover fabric and lace from her dress.

To adapt the runner into a quilt, I cut about 12" out of the center, matching up the lace going down the quilt, and added a border with lace on each side.   I quilted the center in a feather pattern around the lace, and another feather design in the border.

Wedding Dress Quilt for Misty's Grandbaby

Misty had a pretty satin wedding dress, with lace motifs on the skirt.  The bodice and sleeves also had beautiful lace with lots of beading.  She wanted a baby quilt for her grandbaby who is due in a few months.

I put the center front lace from the bodice in the center of the quilt, and lace from the sleeves in the corners and centers of the inner border.  The quilting design gave the illusion of two diamond shapes around the lace.  The outer border was motifs from her skirt, with a feather quilting design.

Wedding Dress Quilt for Whitney's Mother

Whitney wanted a quilt for her Mother, who was married in 1951.  Mother's gown included ivory lace, long sleeve bodice and a satin, chapel length train. She wanted to include the lace and button elements and was interested in an asymmetrical design.

The quilt has a offset circular starburst design, with the center covered in lace, and buttons around the lace.  The lace border from her dress was incorporated into another circular pattern, and a feather border went around the outside.

Wedding Dress Quilt for Nancy

Nancy was married 45 years ago, and wanted me to make her dress into  quilt.  The dress was made from a very lightweight fabric, with lace sleeves and a beaded yoke.  There was a wide lace ruffle around the bottom of the skirt.

The fabric in the dress was too sheer, so we decided to use a nice satin for the quilt, and just use the  lace and trim from dress.

In the center, lace and beading from bodice and sleeves were made into a circle with lace embellishments from skirt in the center. The center was also divided into a diamond shape with the trim from the dress. Embellishments in the corners and a feather quilting design.  The lace ruffle was  laid flat on the inner border. The outer border was a feather design, with their names and wedding date embroidered on the bottom in the center.

Mary Beth's Wedding Dress Quilt and Pillow

Mary Beth had a beautiful dress from her wedding 32 years ago.  Lots of satin with heavily beaded lace, and a beautiful lace around the bottom of the skirt and train.  She also sent me a flower centerpiece she hoped I could use in the pillow.

The quilt is satin, with lace from her dress skirt on the outer border.  Lace from the dress was incorporated into the inner border ribbon design.

The center of the quilt had more of the ribbon design, with feathers in the corners. Beaded lace from the bodice is in a circle around the names and date embroidered in a heart in the center.

For the pillow, I quilted a pretty feather heart, with beaded lace from her bodice in the center.  I attached flowers from the centerpiece around the heart.  On the back, more quilted feathers, and a circle made of bodice lace.

Wedding Dress Quilt from Beth's Mother's Handmade Dress

Beth wanted me to make a wedding dress quilt from her Mother's dress. She was married in 1957, and made the dress herself.  The bodice and sleeves were a beautiful lace, skirt was tulle and the underskirt was satin.  There were buttons down the back of the dress which Beth asked to be included in the design.

I used the satin underskirt for the base of the quilt. The lace was very delicate, so I put it in a heart in the center of the quilt with a few lace motifs. with a quilted design. I put buttons around the edge of the heart. Other flower motifs were spaced around the inner border with a vine and leaf motif joining them. The outer border was quilted in a feather design.

Lisa's Wedding Dress Quilt

Lisa sent me her dress, and her mother's.  She asked for a quilt that combined both dresses.  Her dress had beautiful beading on the bodice, and lots of ruffles with lace motifs.  Her mother's dress had some beautiful lace edging around the bodice and skirt.

Lisa
The quilt top was made from the satin underskirt of her dress. In the center of the quilt, I put a heart made from the lace in Lisa's dress bodice, surrounded by lace from her mom's bodice.  Lisa's mom loved daisies, so I quilted a daisy design around the heart. Lace from mom's bodice went in the corners and around the border of the center panel.  Lace from mom's skirt went around the edge between inner and outer borders, and I put ruffles over the outer border.  Feather quilting went in the open areas.

Cassidy's Wedding Dress Quilt

Cassidy send me her beautiful wedding dress, along with the ties the men in her wedding wore, and some nazars which had special meaning to her.  She asked me to incorporate all of this into a quilt, and wanted some colored quilting also.

Cassidy
The lace from her bodice was put into a circle in the center of the quilt. She loves daffodils, so a daffodil design was quilted in yellow and green thread in a diamond shape in the center panel, with a feather design in the corners. The outer border was quilted in a feather design in blue thread, and the nazars were placed in a design on the quilt.

The outer border was the bridesmaid dress, quilted around the flowers and leaves.  And the bow from the back of her dress was put on the bottom of the quilt.

Barrie pillow front

For the two pillows, I used the same design, with satin from the dress in the center, quilted in a feather design. Then bridesmaid dress borders and lace from her skirt on the outer part of the pillows.  Bows from her dress were placed in the center of each pillow front.

Jamie's Mom's Wedding Dress Quilt

Jamie wanted a quilt made from her mom's dress, it was to be a surprise for her. The dress was very delicate lace and chiffon, and was not in good shape, but I was able to use the neckline lace and beading in the inner border of the quilt

Jamie's Mom

The train from the dress was in good shape, satin, with lots of very delicate lace and bows on the back. The satin from the train was made into the top of the quilt. I put the lace in the center of the quilt, and around the outer border.    Jamie's mother loved daisies, so I used a daisy pattern in the center of the quilt, and the rest of the quilt was quilted in a feather pattern.

Diane's Quilt from her Mother's Wedding Dress

Diane's Mother had the most amazing satin wedding dress.  It was Candlelight color, had a hoop skirt, and had the biggest train I'd ever seen.  She was married in 1942 and the satin was still in beautiful condition.

In the center of the quilt, I created two feather ovals, with flowers inside.  The inner border continued the flowers and leaves.  For the outer border, I quilted a pretty feather design.

Wedding Dress Quilt from Jenelle's Train

Jenelle's dress had a satin train with lace and beading.  There was beautiful lace and beading around the bottom of the train. We decided to make a quilt out of the train, rather than cut it up.

The corners were pieced to make the quilt rectangular, and the bottom of the quilt ended at the curved lace edge so that the lace is hanging off of the quilt the way it was in the dress.  The quilting was designed to accentuate the lace on the quilt.
